It's the end of an era on the korean peninsula. Three short years ago, a young man came to seoul from the shores of New Zealand. A young man with visions of a better, more leisurely life in korea. A young man who became a great friend and teacher to Los Scorpianos. A young man named Mikey Gilbert.

Mikey has done very well for himself and is off to reap the benefits of his three long years in the smelliest city in the world. He has loose plans to travel but will enjoy kicking back in N-Zed with fellow Kiwi lush Barnaby Effingham.

He will be missed for his foul, foul mouth, propensity to "blow out" like none other, and his in-your-face humanity. I envite those who have had the pleasure of meeting the legendary Mr. Gilbert to share some of those magical moments here. Thanks for the memories Gilby!

CHRIS JEREMY LIVES!!!!!!

It will probably come as a pleasant shock to the former residents of 12 Botany St that our favourite boxed wine loving Welsh housemate, Chris ‘The Pub Slut’ Jeremy, is still alive and kicking. Indeed, the former king of the Eastern Sydney suburbs was on top form all together this weekend as I had the pleasure of getting off my face drunk with him in his adopted home town of Cardiff. Supporting a healthy buffon of hair, a top girlfriend on his arm and a new updated version of his classic hoodie (still worn hanging off the left shoulder) I’m happy to report he is in great form. Tales of past exploits in the Tea Gardens, his legendary final argument with Byron and our time spent in the shitest job ever counting votes in the NSW election (Oja was our boss) were all recalled during an emotional night spent touring Cardiff’s finest boozers. Other highpoints on this much needed escape weekend included The Big Man railing possibly the ugliest 40yr old ‘woman’ in the British Isles and her refusal to leave his hotel room, attending Barnsley FC’s dramatic penalty shootout victory over Swansea in the League One playoff finals, the random violence on the streets of Cardiff after the game and me managing to stay in Drurys hotel all weekend without paying for a room and not getting scruffed.

Pat Nussey... Champion of Justice. If you were to peruse the "In the Courts" section of the Korean Times you would be witness to a major victory for international leisure. Venerable Brother P-Nuss has initiated proceedings to recoup substantial back pay from dead beat recruiter "Danny the Dog". The evil Korean recruiters often see us foreign English teachers as naïve, easy prey.

“What possible recourse could some stupid, way guk, Canadian teacher have?” asked Mr. The Dog. “Your money is mine, all mine!! MMUUUAA HA HA HA !!”Nussey, a 5 time Employee of the Month at his school, was all business when asked for his comment. “Enough is enough. I’ve dedicated the greater part of my adult life educating the youth of Korea. I do it for the smiles on the children’s faces. I do it knowing that, in some small way, I may have helped some kid realize their dream… working 17 hour days, 6 days a week for Samsung.”

The Society for Legal Equity In Seoul Urban Resident Educators (LEISURE) has agreed to foot the bill for Nussey’s dream team of lawyers. “Too often people walk away knowing justice was on their side,” said Nussey’s chief legal advisor Kobawoo Attachi . “Finally, we’ve found someone who doesn’t care about money in the slightest. Pat Nussey is doing this purely on principle. End of story.”

We, the Brothers and Sisters of the QSLS and all its global affiliates, salute Brother Nussey and wish him the best of luck as he fights the good fight in the name of leisure and all that is good. Respect!

Venerable Brother P-Nuss has initiated proceedings to recoup substantial back pay from dead beat recruiter "Danny the Dog". The evil Korean recruiters often see us foreign English teachers as naïve, easy prey. They are quick to take advantage of the noble spirit exuded by most, if not all, English teachers in Seoul.
